Money Market Treasury Report

Question: Describe about the nature of Money Market? Answer: Introduction: Money market is the part of the fiscal market which deals with the fiscal instruments. In the money market, it deals with short term maturities and with very much liquidity in the fiscal market. The money markets are one of the safest places to invest the money. The securities of money market is mainly content of Treasury bills, federal funds, certificate of deposits, repurchase agreements, municipal notes, bankers acceptance and commercial paper. In this research analysis, the analyst studies the nature of the money market, the interest rates of the money market and the different strategies used during the trading by the investors in the money market. The nature of Money Market: The investors in the money market can trade in the money market. The investor in the money market can buy securities and sell securities according to the investors state of mind. The investors can borrow the money and can lend the money in the money market. The money market is mainly known as the short term market. This is because the trading in the money market is for a very short term period (Von Mises, 2013). The investor should trade for less than one year in the money market. If the trader in the money market traded for more than one year then, the market is known as capital market or fixed interest market. Functions of the money market: The money market is a technique where the transfer of funds are traded and has urbanized to make the trading a muscular scale of consistency and security. The most essential function of money market is the trading of funds which is short term from the surplus units to the shortfall units. The other function of the money market is the method of raising the fund which is in short term by the Government of the country. This is a crucial technique of implementing the financial policy of the country. It can also help in determining the structure of rate of interest of the country. Major participants in the Money Market: The Central Bank: The central bank plays an important role in operating the money supply and the intensity of the rate of interest. The central bank all over the world execute on the policy, predominantly in fiscal policy. The economic policy of the Government mainly aims at the growth of economics, external balance, full employment and the stability of price (Vogel, 2010). The Commercial Bank: The commercial bank always accepts the deposits and arranges loans of the peoples and also for the companies who want to take loans from the market. It also supplies resources of funding for the Government by purchasing the securities of the Government (Schwager, 2012). It also helps in raising the funds in the companies and to the persons by straight financing. Merchant Banks: In the money market, Investment bank also participates in trading. The participation of commercial bank in the money market by affording a wide array of fiscal forces for cost and commissions. The merchant bank always accepts the short period loans and the fixed deposits. Finance Companies: The finance companies always take part in various activities. One of the activities of the finance companies is to provide finance in leasing and by hire purchasing. It also takes part in investing and in the portfolio management. But finance company loves to play in long term activities mainly in the capital market (Schwager, 2012). It should also participate in the short term activities to get more finance and to control the liquidity. Interest Rates: There are different types of interest rates in the money market. They are: a) The borrowing funds cost b) The lending funds rate of interest. c) Time value of monetary value. d) The cost of opportunity of holding monetary value. Interest rate is usually viewed as the price of funds that are borrowed from the lender. When the borrower borrows some amount of money from the lender, the lender gets interest on the borrowing amount. The interest paid by the borrower to the lender on certain interest rates. The interest rates are calculated on the principal amount that is the borrowing amount. Interest Rate Calculations: The time value of the monetary value shows the variation of money in the present value (PV) and the future value (FV) of the money (Schmidt, 2011). The variation of money is presented by the interest amount (I) paid by the borrower. FV = PV + I Simple Interest: The term simple interest is also known as the flat interest. The simple interest or flat interest is calculated on the principal amount that is the borrowing amount, borrowed by the borrower from the lender (Hur, 2005). The formula of simple interest is calculated by: I = PV * i * t Where, i is the annual interest rate t is the term of the investment in years and the formula for the future value, based on simple interest can be derived as follows: FV = PV + I = PV + (PV * i * t) = PV (1 + it) Assume $200 is invested today for 6 years at 6 % simple interest: I = PV * i * t = 200 * 6 * 0.06 = 72 FV = PV + I = 200 + 72 = 272 Alternatively, using the formula for the future value: Fv = PV (1 + it) = 200 (1 + 0.06 * 6) = 200 * 1.36 = 272 In the money market, the technique simple interest is used if the borrowing money is less than twelve months. Compound Interest: Compound interest is another technique for calculating the interest amount like simple interest. The compound interest is also calculated on the principal amount that is the borrowing amount, borrowed by the borrower from the lender (Faltin, Fleischmann and Feuerle, 2013). The formula of compound interest is calculated by: FV = PV (1 + i)t If the compound period is more than one in the year then the equation will be, FV = PV (1 + i/m)t * m Here, m is equal to the total number of compound periods in a year. i / m is equal to the rate of interest per compounding period. t * m is equal to the total number of compounding periods. To calculate the future value in the compound interest is FV = PV (1 + r)n Here, r is equals to the rate of interest per compounding period N is the total number of compounding periods. Nominal and Effective / Comparative Interest Rates: The comparative rate is also known as the effective interest. The comparative rate of interest is calculated if the compounding period is more than one year. It is very much essential to compute the rate of interest and to compare the rate of interest with various compounding periods (Homer and Sylla, 2005). The formula used to find the Nominal and Comparative Interest Rate is: ie = (1 + i / m)m 1 Discount Rates: Discount rate means the calculation of the total amount of interest paid by the borrower to the lender, which is the variation among the present value of money and the future value of the money (Alonso and Blanco, 2005). The formula used in the discount rates to calculate the interest amount: FV = PV + I = PV (1 + it) The above equation can be arranged in PV = FV / (1 + y * t) Here, y is equal to i which is the yield or the discount rate. The flow of cash that take place more than 1 year, then the formula can be written in: PV = FV (1 + r) n = FV / (1 + r)n The Structure of Interest Rates: The interest rate structure reflects the affiliation among the current various rate of interest in the fiscal system. The structure of interest rate is of two types. They are a) Risky structure of rate of interest. b) Term structure of rate of interest. The fund suppliers always seem to be risk reluctant. It means that the point of risk of a fiscal asset is higher, then the point of return claimed by the trader of cremation is higher. The two fiscal risks which will sway the rate of return by the traders are: a) Liquidity Risk. b) Credit Risk or Default Risk. Liquidity Risk: This type of risk has various prospects which depend on the traders fretful. For the trader, this type of risk should not be traded in the market. In this market, the assets cannot be traded by the investors, so the investor cannot convert the assets in to the cash. Credit Risk: Credit risk is also known as the default risk. The default risk is the risk that the borrower cannot repay the borrowed amount to the lender (Cantwell, 2013). During the year 2007 and 2008, the house mortgage trader cannot repay the borrowed loan to the bank which causes market crash in the USA market. The Graph showing the Singapore interest rate: The next six months interest rate of Singapore: The Different Types of Strategies: The different types of strategies in the money market are mentioned below: Minimum Price Fluctuation: The minimum price fluctuation is legalized on the bottom of the swap is 1 basis point, which is appreciated at $25. One-Month LIBOR Futures: One-month LIBOR futures starts trading on the IMM in the year 1990. The one-month LIBOR contract means the three-month Euro and dollar agreement mentioned in the research, excluding that ending settlement is based on the 30-day LIBOR. Contract decision is like Eurodollar contract for the three months, the LIBOR for one month contract is cash established. Arrangement is based on a speculative principal amount of $3 million. For one-month LIBOR futures Price Quotation and Minimum Price Fluctuation Prices are found as an index almost indistinguishable used in Eurodollar futures for three-month. The index is calculated by subtracting the 30-day futures LIBOR from 100. The smallest amount of price increased is 1 basis point. Final settlement Price: For the one month Libor, the ending agreement price depends on the daily interest rates. Trading Strategies: The traders should have some trading strategies. The trader can invest in the capital market in some shares, bonds or securities when the market price of the shares, bonds or securities are lower in the market (Halsey, 2013). And the trader can sell his or her shares, bonds, securities when the market price gets higher. If the trader follows this strategy while investing and selling in the market, the trader can make a profit from the investment in the capital market. Long Position (Bullish Strategy): The trader should buy the shares, bonds or securities when the market price is getting down. That time the trader should go for the long position that is invest the money in the capital market. After buying the shares at a lower cost the trader should wait for the market to get into the bullish condition (Katsanos, 2008). When the market is in Bullish condition the trader should sell the shares and get into the short position. Short Position (Bearish Strategy): When the trader invested in the capital market and the market price went high and the trader is expecting a fall in the market price, the trader can go into the short position on securities, bonds or shares in the market price to earn a profit (Katz and McCormick, 2000). And can wait for the price to go down in the market. If the market price gets down the trader can again invest the money in the capital market earn a profit. Spread Position: The term spread refers to the continuous purchasing and selling of commodities like shares, bonds or securities. The main aim of the traders to gets into the spread position is to earn a profit from the portfolio made by the traders in the capital market. The difference in price between the long and short position helps the trader to generate profit (Miner, 2009). Time Spread: Time spread is also known as calendar spread and horizontal spread. This is a strategy which involves the buying and selling of call options and put options with the similar strike price but having diverse date of expiration (Schmidt, 2011). If the trader enters into the time spread strategy it decreases the risk of the market. Hedging Strategies: Hedging strategy means when the traders gets into the long position or in the short position in the capital market the trader can use the hedging strategy. When the traders make the portfolio, the traders should keep in mind that from all the securities or the shares, the trader cannot earn a profit. May be the trader may run in loss while investing in the market (Tang and Li, 2007). To minimize the loss the traders should hedge their portfolio with different shares or securities so that the loss from one share gets minimize by making a profit from other securities. Perfect hedge and cross hedge: Perfect hedge is a position which reduces the risk of the market from a portfolio. This perfect hedge is a position which may have hundred percent contrary correlations to its initial position (Schmidt, 2011). Cross hedge means when the trader is in the long position or in the short position of a commodity takes an opposite position of a different commodity. Conclusion: From the above study, the research analyst studied the concept of money market in the financial market. The research analyst also studies the different rates of interest rate imposed in the money market. It also describes the different trading strategies of the money market which gives an idea that how to protect the investors money in the money market so that the investor cannot face loss in the investors investments. The gracious Game of Globalization

The flat world With upcoming of the phase of Globalization 3.0 the world is losing its disparity and differences and becoming merged into a flat land. With people and individuals opening their brains and seeking for chances to enter into the aura of the gracious and magnificent world, this opportunity is really exciting and interesting. The iron rule highlighted by Friedman that whatever is going to happen, will happen, is a new truth of this era and evidently if a person is not the initiator to put forward his ideas then another person who might be sitting thousand miles away may implement it and the same idea comes back to you. So this era calls for individuals to put forward their innovations before any other person does the same. This Iron Rule is actually a golden key to open up the remaining doors of the world. But seeing the whole world under one lens is not a matter of intellect. With the world still divided into the classes of countries, these so called third world countries are not seaml essly integrated into the aura of globalization and to a surprise some areas of Africa, Asia and some other parts have their lands untouched by Globalization. So, it is not justifiable to coin the term flat for all but instead settling down onto towards flat for all. With cultural differences, uniqueness also ends up and people with diversity and dignity are clubbed under just a single umbrella term. Neither too flat, nor untouched Professor Ghemawat, in his applause winning presentation, criticized the idea of the flat world by presented some of the surprising data which made people aligned towards the his concept of thinking. Althought, the world is not purely a single flat entity but a conglomerate of various modular markets. The world is heading towards squeezing but is not so close to be termed as tiny globe. With various means of communication available, there is still not much use of it. With various opportunities to collaborate, there is not much trade out of it. The fears and inherent doubts in the mind of people are not making them to open up themselves to the world and to the shrunken world. A radical globalization would be adorned if taken up in increments and going phase by phase to actually come really close and combined. The Waves of Culture Culture spread across the globe is the symbol of global existence and worldwide uniqueness. Inspite of cultural differences across the world the waves of numerous cultures have woven the world into a single uniform thread of harmony. The top managers and entrepreneurs should be skilled and sensitive in order to sustain managerial effectiveness which crosses the borders of the countries, companies or individuals and hence the cultural borders. People crossing the border and going global face various cultural shocks or discrimination. Inspite of the globalization 3.0 ruling the world, there are differences inherent into the cross-cultural experiences. And when two cultures collaborate, there is a risk of clash and ripples rising out of the waves. Riding the waves of culture by Fons Trompenaars, deeply describes the cultural sensitivity and dimensions across the globe. Considering America as a peach culture and Germany as a coconut culture, there is huge difficulty in intersection of bo th, one sensibly everything can be conquered. Some of the recent cultural clashes in Australia which did spread like a viral was violence against Indians in Australia which was an outcome of racially motivated crime. Looking at such aspects of globalized culture, there is still an open question for debate. Are we actually and sensitively going global and seamlessly merging into a tiny world or its just a beginning of some terrifying? The coherent National culture The ideology of a single uniform national culture being applied to the whole world is actually a myth as each nation is an epitome of unity in diversity. If Australia can be grouped and classified under certain dimensions of culture namely individualism, power distance, pragmatism etc., then it is not justifiable to view every nation under the same lens defined and to classify the individual cultural backgrounds under the tag of National culture. Individuals have deep mindsets regarding personal or community cultures and hence must not be seamlessly woven into the culture of the nation which includes various small, distinct or even opposing cultures. Hence, it is quite misleading to classify the whole country on the basis of some rubrics cube dimensions of culture. The view should be to be consider the national culture as a big circle of including various small circles of community cultures. Though there can be measures for comparison among the nations based over the cultures but, a correct and practical comparison can never be undertaken as far as uniqueness of community cultures are taken into consideration. The webby culture Globalization and the rise of internet are not really related or directly proportional. Websites and online marketing content needs to be collaborated into a uniform mixture imbibing the cultural values and beliefs of the global village. The differences in the appearance, presentation, code of context, color themes, dynamics and so many other attributes lead to a wide arena of brainstorming required prior to design websites for the target nation. It is critical to have a deep insight into the cultural beliefs of most of the communities of the target country. The content is the most crucial aspect which might harm the cultural instincts and hence the designer must dwell deeper into the arena of contextual coherence. Moving Ahead After an extensive, clashing, gluing, interesting, terrifying discussions about the culture of the globalized world, it is evident that any theory or methodology to classify the national cultures or global culture are not sufficient and not at all fully correct. Hence, there is a need for collaboration and intersection to theories and to let this question of global culture be open for extensive discussions and debates.

Building Stalins Cult of Personality Essays

Building Stalins Cult of Personality Essays Building Stalins Cult of Personality Essay Building Stalins Cult of Personality Essay What is the significance of propaganda throughout history? Why are the great rulers so great? How do rulers like Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini and many others manage to win peoples approval and support? All these questions can be answered with a single word propaganda. Propaganda has been helping great rulers to establish great states and it has also brought confidence and stability to these states. During the beginning of the 20th century Russia was suffering a crisis (The Stalin Cult: the Cult of Personality). After World War I and the Civil War, Russia had reached the pick of its downfall, so just when Russia needed someone that could bring back the order, Stalin and his cult of personality gave Russia a way out of the crisis (The Stalin Cult: the Cult of Personality).Using propaganda Stalin managed to unite the whole nation and, thus lead Russia out of the crisis. Soon after Stalins death it was Nikita Khrushchev, who in 1956 at the Twentieth Congress of the Communist Party exposed Stalins Cult of Personality, coined the term Stalinism and began calling him Vozhd (meaning Leader) (Cult of Personality). This cult helped the Vozhd maintain control in the USSR, while propaganda and manipulation were massively used to extend and reinforce his cult of personality.Stalinist propaganda dates its beginning in the 1920s when its use was necessary due to the newly arisen power struggle for dominance in the USSR (The Struggle for Succession). Lenins death in January 1924 was a tragedy that affected the nation (Why Stalin and Not Trotsky?). Upon his death a cult was formed, called the Lenin cult, which described him as the the greatest leader of all time and all nations (Why Stalin and Not Trotsky?). When Lenin died he left over a political testament, calling for Stalins removal from his position as a secretary of the party. This document was potentially disastrous to Stalins career, but his skills and luck gave him the opportunity to discount it (Why Stalin and Not Trots ky?). After Lenins death there were five possible candidates for his successor (The Struggle for Succession). They were all Lenins personal choice: Trotsky, Stalin, Zinoviev, Kamenev and Bukharin (Why Stalin and Not Trotsky?).Actually, it was Trotsky, who was the natural heir to Lenin, since he was the one to organize the October coup to manage the Red Army in the Civil War and was quite popular (Why Stalin and Not Trotsky?). He had also helped Lenins rise to power (The Struggle for Succession). However, his chances of succeeding Lenin were probably more apparent than real. Trotsky was a poor administrator, who joined the Bolshevik party late, and his Jewishness was not an advantage in a country where Jews were widely blamed for the devastations done by communism (Stalin and The Lesser Gods). On the other hand, although far less known, it was more possible for Stalin to inherit Lenin (The Struggle for Succession). Since he was intellectually plain, a dry speaker and an awful writer, Stalin preferred to control and operate behind the curtains (The Struggle for Succession). He was a true manipulator, who used all possible, but well thought tactics to make people do obey his commands.Propaganda and manipulation was used in the 1920s to grant Stalin a victory in the ongoing power struggle. By 1922 Stalin was in a unique position to manipulate policies due to the fact that he belonged both to the Politburo (it set policy) and the Secretariat (it managed personnel) (Stalin and The Lesser Gods). To hold back Trotsky, he also entered in an alliance with Zinoviev and Kamenev, thus forming a triumvirate (The Struggle for Succession). The triumvirate dominated in the Politburo and also isolated their common rival (The Struggle for Succession).Aware of the power struggle arising and the deep affairs of his successors, Lenin tried to intervene and keep the party discipline, but the triumvirate gave orders and he was left banned from involvement in any government affairs (T he Struggle for Succession). Next, Stalin broke up the triumvirate to obtain undisputed personal leadership (Stalin and The Cult of Personality1). Then, in order achieve full control Stalin had to win the support of the party cadres, so he promised to provide a continued and stable leadership, to repel all of the democratic challenges and to maintain any privileges the country has gained (The Stalin Cult: the Cult of Personality). Not only Stalin concentrated on manipulation of the party, but immediately after Lenins death he also endorsed an extravagant quasi-Byzantine cult of the departed leader in order to start building his own cult of personality and undermine his opponents authority (The Struggle for Succession). He rewrote history in such a way as to make himself appear much closer to Lenin than he was in fact (Stalin and The Cult of Personality1). Since people were vulnerable at that time it was easy for them to be convinced in Stalins new reproach that in its own way looked very much like Lenins. Stalin indeed loved Lenin and wanted to prove his love not only to other people but to himself as well (Stalin and The Cult of Personality1). He succeeded in doing so because people began putting their names together (Stalin and The Cult of Personality1).Laughter in the village,Voice behind the plow,Lenin and Stalin,And these verses now (by Pasternak) (Stalin and The Cult of Personality2).Stalin finally managed to mislead the public that he was closer to Lenin than Trotsky was and this made him the ideal choice for the new Leader. After getting rid of Trotsky, Stalin also used propaganda to erase his image from any popular photographs of the time (look at Appendix Propaganda #1, #2) Thus, because of the most powerful weapon propaganda and manipulation the power struggle was ended in favor of Stalin. On assuming full control over the USSR, Stalin began major reforms with the help of propaganda in order to rebuild the country. Stalins policy differed from Leni ns in that he believed that men worked for communism. That is why he instantly ended the New Economic Policy and introduced the First Five Year Plan (Revolution by Design). At the time mobilization was the major desire and for it to be fulfilled a harshly controlled propaganda was engendered (Revolution by Design). Among factories, farms and all of the public places appeared vociferous posters in infinite varieties and quantities (Revolution by Design). As Gustav Klutsis said: the country was on the attack! to fulfill the new plan, to exceed the quotas in any possible way, to secure the USSR (The Struggle for Succession). Klutsis converted the techniques of the 1920s into an illustration of the plan (Revolution by Design). Although he used simple colors for his art, many were astonished by the dynamics, which were imposed by newly introduced perspectives and proportions (Revolution by Design). All of this was juxtaposed with bold, florid typography in order to emphasize and stress th e heroic age (look at Appendix Propaganda #3) (Revolution by Design).Right after this wild age, Stalin announced a Second Five Year Plan to start immediately (The Struggle for Succession). It had to deal with the entire leniency allowed to writers and artists at the times of Trotsky and Lenin (The Long History of Censorship). Lenin and Trotsky may have introduced this new policy since they have realized how easy intellectuals could convey new ideas in society. As a result, the years of this new order saw a great degree of novelty in both literature and arts, which was harshly contrasting to the general political severity of the regime (The Long History of Censorship). However, upon the annunciation of the Second Five Year Plan all leniency came to its end (The Long History of Censorship). Thus, the censorship and the purging became even more convoluted and ominous (The Long History of Censorship). In the Second Five Year Plan all efforts were directed in another direction repressio n (Revolution by Design). In 1934 Stalin embarked first on a purgation of the Party and then of the army (Revolution by Design). Those who were suspected to disagree or even lack enthusiasm were either sent to labor camps or executed (Revolution by Design). Many artists from the earlier period died at that time and one of them is Klutsis, who died in the camps (gulags) (Revolution by Design). Still, in art, literature and any form of expressions of that time one theme dominated and that was the role of the infallible Vozhd Joseph Stalin (The Long History of Censorship). His image appeared anywhere, in any kind of context he achieved a status of a demi-god in the USSR (The Struggle for Succession). He believed he was the great leader and teacher of the Soviet people (look at Appendix Propaganda #4) (Stalin Controls His Image). He wanted more than anything to be represented as peoples closest friend, their comrade and successor of Lenin (Stalin Controls His Image). The end justified the means and it did not matter if a few photos had to be adjusted. Spontaneity and originality were driven out by terror and fear, thus producing the new art the art of Social Realism (The Struggle for Succession). It dominated in the USSR long after Stalins death in 1953 (Revolution by Design). Stalin has made a lot of reforms to rebuilt the USSR, which all differ in methods and tactics, but they all have at least one thing in common the usage of propaganda and manipulation.Stalins cult of personality is not by chance because it succeeded to unify the nation, stabilize the state and therefore bring Russia back to power. Even though his reign was primarily related to terror, horror and slaughter, it also helped Russia gradually get out of the crisis it suffered due do previous wars. To rise to power, he built his own by manipulative tactics and propaganda, which on the other hand built Stalins image. His name will be remembered in history, for he will always remain the man of st eel.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE - Language in Theory and Practice Essay - 1

ENGLISH LANGUAGE - Language in Theory and Practice - Essay Example Advertising thus resorts into subtle messaging to obtain attention, develop interest, and stimulate desire for the thing being advertised (Proctor, Proctor & Papasolomou-Doukakis, 2002:32). The Citizen print ad contains multimedia texts – written words, pictures of champion skier Chemmy Alcott dressed in ski attire and holding her skis, and a close-up of the model of Citizen Eco-Drive, the watch being promoted. In boldface capital letters is the word UNSTOPPABLE appears twice on the page. Metaphor is described as â€Å"a rhetorical style of comparing two dissimilar objects, so that the characteristic of one object is transferred to the other.† In this advertisement, visual metaphor was used to effect visual persuasion (Miller, Hadjimarcou, & Miciak, 2000:60). In the ad, the visual metaphor is created between the skier and the watch, both facing the viewer frontally. The watch is unstoppable because it relies on an inexhaustible energy supply. Inexhaustible energy is likewise implicitly attributed to Chemmy Alcott as a matter of character. Furthermore, vector analysis enhanced by close-up shot identifies her direct stare at the viewer as a â€Å"demand† that also personally challenges the audience’s belief and behaviour. Here, â€Å"genderization† is depicted no as attribute â€Å"but as a relation of power and a process by which gender structures are created, reinforced and/or transformed† (Norlander, 2000 in Lidestav & Sjà ¶lander, 2007:352). Chemmy Alcott is depicted as the consummate athlete, a field dominated by men. The reference is clearly gender based, as women in sports are a rarity. For women, the construct â€Å"unstoppable† means that even if social norms tried to stop her, she would not. She does not detract from her femininity, however, which is why her watch is studded with 30 diamonds, â€Å"a girl’s best friend†, and with a subtle Mother-of-Pearl color, an
